May is Older Americans Mental Health Month
As May comes to a close, it's important to acknowledge the importance of mental health among older adults, including promoting mental health equity, challenging the stigma around mental health, cultivating resilience, reducing barriers to accessing mental health services and strengthening the mental health workforce.  There are three things you can to get involved with improving mental health among older adults:
  • Learn more about older adult mental health by reading the latest Generations Journal on Mental Health, Aging, and Resilience and watching ASA’s new Beyond Generations webcast on older adult mental health, with a focus on promoting mental health equity as we age through trauma and resilience lenses;
  • Advocate for older adult mental health on social media;
  • Educate others about aging and mental health by organizing workshops, webinars, or community outreach events to educate audiences about mental health issues specific to aging, coping strategies, and available resources.

You're Invited to Dr. Ala Stanford's Book Launch and Celebration!
Philadelphia native and founder of the Black Doctors Consortium, Dr. Ala Stanford, who has spoken with Penn's Village members about her work, has written an insightful new book highlights the devastating racial injustices in our healthcare system. Part memoir, part manifesto for health equality and justice, Take Care of Them Like My Own offers urgent lessons about the power of communities working together to take care of one another and the importance of fighting for a healthcare system that truly fulfills its promise to all Americans.  There will be a book launch and celebration at Ensemble Arts Philly (formerly the Kimmel Center) featuring Sheinelle Jones, TODAY Show Co-Host and NBC News Correspondent, on August 6.  Tickets are $50 for adults over 62; to purchase tickets and find out more, click here:
