Penn's Village Interest Groups

Interest groups are open to and are formed and led by members at the Neighbor and Villager levels. Meetings are scheduled by each interest group, typically one-to-two times a month. Discussions are self-determined, confidential, varied, friendly and respectful. To explore when each group meets, what interest group you may wish to join, availability of openings, or to join a wait list, contact the office at Info@PennsVillage.org.

Book Group

The Book Group meets monthly, reading mostly fiction, memoir, and "light" non-fiction chosen by one member, who then leads the discussion.

Chat Group

Any and all subjects are open for discussion by members.

The Chat group meets every two weeks on Thursdays.

Cooking and Restaurant Group

The group is a combination of people who like to cook and are interested in learning more/sharing food via potluck, and people who like to eat and will go to either potlucks or experience new/good restaurants.

There is no set schedule for gatherings.

History Book Club

Members read and discuss recent monographs on U.S. history from the colonial period to the recent past.

The History Book Club meets once a month on weekday afternoons, usually Tuesday or Wednesday.

Men's Group

The longest running Interest group. Anything can be discussed; any member may propose a topic.

The Men's Group meets every other Monday.

Short Story Group

The purpose is to enjoy and learn from finely-crafted short stories suggested by the facilitator or other participants.

The Short Story group meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month.

Spanish Conversation Group

A mix of members with various levels of proficiency who discuss current affairs, personal activities, and more.

The Spanish Conversation group meets Monday afternoons.

Support Group

Members discuss issues of aging such as loss of a loved one, health problems, and any issue where mutual support might be beneficial. The support group is co-facilitated by two retired clinical social workers.

The Support group meets on the first Monday of each month.

Walking Group

The Walking Group connects enrolled members with partners or with small groups so that they may schedule walks based on their shared interests, abilities, and time schedules.

Writer's Group

Members share their short, written pieces of fiction or non-fiction and seek feedback from one another.
The group provides a fine example of the adage getting to know a person through their writing.

The Writers' group meets once a month.
