Taking Care of That Pelvic Floor (P)

“Taking Care of That Pelvic Floor”

with Meghan Tierney Lash
Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at 2:00 pm

In-Person in the MacColl Room

First Presbyterian Church, 201 S. 21st St.

This presentation is for women and men of all ages to learn more about pelvic floor issues - what they are, what causes them, and how to prevent them from happening.  Many things such as urinary leakage are considered “normal” consequences of aging, but we are going to explain why that is not necessarily the case! We’ll also discuss other common pelvic floor issues such as urinary urgency, constipation, fecal incontinence, pain with intercourse, and back and hip pain. We’ll touch on anatomy and posture and discuss the role of the pelvic floor muscles. We’ll pay a lot of attention to proper bowel and bladder mechanics, as well as the role that posture and other co-morbidities can play in pelvic floor function. The focus will be on prevention, but we will discuss how physical therapy can help with some common issues.  We will also outline what might warrant a call to a specialist.

Meghan Tierney Lash, PT, MPT, OCS has worked in the field of outpatient physical therapy for more than twenty-four years, and built a reputation as a personable and knowledgeable physical therapist who works to establish trusting and lasting relationships with her patients. After graduating from Duquesne University’s five-year Master of Physical Therapy program in 1999, Meghan worked at various orthopedic and sports clinics in Phoenix and Los Angeles before returning to Philadelphia in order to start her own practice.  In 2010, she opened One Physical Therapy and Wellness, a one-on-one physical therapy clinic and PIlates studio stressing manual therapy and using Pilates as a form of treatment. In June 2023, she opened her second location near Rittenhouse Square. Meghan and her team of physical therapists specialize in treating orthopedic and pelvic health conditions, and stress manual work, functional activity training and education as part of treatment.
