Looking for Holiday Stories
 
Our friends at WHYY are working on a holiday show for December and are looking for stories that showcase different ways in which the holiday season is celebrated - from volunteer work to faith-based activities, from short getaways from the city to activities that support those in need. If you either participate in such activities or know of others who are involved in them (perhaps related to services for seniors in Philadelphia), please email us at communications@pennsvillage.org. Be sure to include your contact information for any follow-up questions.

Retiring Solo? 
 
No one wants to think about the problems of growing older, especially when solutions are not easy or known, and can be expensive. But the alternatives are worse. A recent article in the New York Times reviews the basics of what is needed in estate planning, especially for solo agers, and guides you through options that can give you peace of mind.  You can read the article here:

PCA's Senior Strut is Coming Up!
 
Senior Strut is the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging's (PCA) annual health event. It will will kick-off on Friday, October 18 at 9:30AM with a one-mile walk from Lloyd Hall on Kelly Drive along Boathouse Row, led by a band playing lively music. All walkers will receive a free t-shirt. More than 500 older adults are expected to attend this event, which will also include a wide-range of wellness activities. Sponsors and exhibitors will distribute health-related information and provide free screenings, a DJ will be on-site to provide music, and attendees will get a healthy lunch, giveaways, and more!

Tickets for this event are $5 and can be purchased in advance at PCA, 642 N. Broad Street, Monday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., or at the event. For more information call 215-765-9000, ext. 5055.

Self-registration is now available on the Penn's Village website!  Please review our Self Registration and register here. You can also register by emailing info@pennsvillage.org or calling 215-925-7333. If you cannot attend, please cancel your reservation to make room for others.
 
Most programs are free of charge to our members and active volunteer partners.  Non-member guests are welcome to attend up to three programs before being asked to join Penn's Village as a member or volunteer partner, or by paying $10 per additional program.  Refunds are available if registration is cancelled prior to the program.
