Preparing Your Home to Meet Your Needs

When our physical health and safety needs change as we get older, we may be tempted to think that the only solution is to downsize, move, get out of the city, etc. That may be the best option for some; but for others, adaptations and improvements to your physical space may be enough to extend the time you can stay in a home you love.

This panel discussion with a range of experts from different backgrounds can get you thinking about steps you may be able to take now and in the future to keep your home comfortable and livable. Taking into account how we currently use space, what kinds of things are important to us in our environment, and what types of adaptations are possible are among the topics to be discussed.

The program will be led by Larry Gladstone, the CEO of Stair Ride, Philadelphia’s Home Access Company since 1965, and a Penn’s Village Business Member. Stair Ride is a full-service, consultative, home access business enabling older individuals and individuals with disabilities to remain in their homes. Other panelists include: Kathryn Herrero, the Clinical Director of Moss Rehab Center City; Marlene Weiner a licensed, practicing occupational therapist and an interior designer for the past 25 years; and Liz Dunleavy, a licensed social worker and certified care manager with Kith Elder Care.
