Live from our own kitchens, please join us for the next Lunch & Books featuring a discussion of the 128-page On Tyranny, Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century.

The #1 New York Times bestseller has been described as a “call to arms and a guide to resistance, with invaluable ideas for how we can preserve our freedoms in the uncertain years to come.” While the Founding Fathers tried to protect us from the threat they knew, the tyranny that overcame ancient democracy, our political order faces new threats, not unlike the totalitarianism of the twentieth century.


Timothy David Snyder is an American author and historian specializing in the history of Central and Eastern Europe, and the Holocaust. He is the Richard C. Levin Professor of History at Yale University and a Permanent Fellow at the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna. The New York Times called him “a rising public intellectual unafraid to make bold connections between past and present.”

This will be an online event hosted via Zoom Conferencing. You do not need a Zoom account but you will need to download and install the Zoom app on your computer or mobile device to join the event. Please email us at info@pennsvillage.org in advance or check out our new Zoom Instructions if you need assistance installing the Zoom app. If you cannot join the event using your computer or mobile device and the Zoom app, you can join the event via teleconference and hear the audio portion. You will receive an email a day or so before the event with a link to the meeting, the Meeting ID, call-in telephone numbers and instructions for joining the meeting.
