The Aging Brain

January 6, 2021

What happens to the human brain as we age, whether or not or we stay physically healthy?

In an hour-long presentation followed by a question-and-answer session, Dr. Jay Pomerantz focused on this critical topic.

There are some interventions such as physical exercise, proper diet, adequate sleep, purposeful learning, treating depression, etc. that may minimize the losses in cognitive function no matter the overall health of the individual.

This presentation included slides and also short video clips of prominent research scientists talking about the evidence for these suggestions.

Jay M. Pomerantz, M.D. received an A.B. from Hamilton College and an M.D. from Yale University School of Medicine. He is a “Distinguished Life Fellow” of the American Psychiatric Association and winner of the “Outstanding Psychiatrist Award” of the Massachusetts Psychiatric Association in 2000. Since retiring from psychiatric practice, Dr. Pomerantz has been teaching at OLLI/Temple University and has a new book available from Amazon entitled “A Happy End of Life, Living Well After 80”.
