This presentation will focus on the fascinating connection between music and the brain. Music is a complex phenomenon that is processed in many different areas of the brain. Dr. Petrovsky will share recent findings examining the impact of music on the health and well-being of older adults. In addition, she will share practical ways music can be used to enhance well-being.



Before joining Rutgers University, Darina Petrovsky, PhD, RN was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing where she received her PhD in 2017. Prior to her doctoral work, she received a Masters in Nursing from Case Western Reserve University (2011) and a Bachelors of Musical Arts from the University of Michigan (2009). Her unique background in music training and nursing science has launched her research career with the goal of improving the lives of older adults living with cognitive impairment using non-pharmacologic approaches.
