Commitment to Inclusiveness
Penn’s Village welcomes and actively encourages an inclusive and diverse community of members, staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers. Inclusiveness and diversity mean welcoming all and excluding no one because of age, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, physical abilities, religious beliefs, or political beliefs.
Our Vision, Mission, and Values further reflect this commitment.
Brief History of Penn’s Village’s Commitment to Inclusiveness & Diversity
In 2019 the Board appointed and charged a Task Force and then a Standing Committee (2020) on Inclusiveness & Diversity. Training for all leadership and staff on Mitigating Unconscious Bias was followed by the establishment of a monthly Inclusiveness BLOG on the Penn’s Village website, ongoing co-production with the Program Committee of relevant educational activities, regular updates in the monthly Newsletter, shared membership on relevant standing committees, and institution of a program of community outreach and inclusiveness with grant funding from the Independence Foundation.
