The Amazing Success of Philly's William Penn

How he turned a howling wilderness into America's fastest growing city

Wednesday, March 18 from 2:00 to 3:00 pm

Via Zoom

This presentation covers more than 300 years of Philly history in about 45 minutes plus Q&A. It includes facts about Philadelphia most residents don’t know … shows an out-of-this world photo of Philly … and ends with an easy way to remember Philadelphia Streets south of Market.

Bio of presenter:  Jim Murphy is a writer, certified tour guide and Philly resident who lives inside the limits of William Penn’s original, 2-square-mile planned city. He’s also written over 60 articles on Philadelphia for community publications. Many of them have been updated for Jim’s book, “Real Philly History, Real Fast.”

Mozart's Requiem

A concert performance will be held on Sunday, March 15 at 4:00 pm at Saint Mark's Church, 1625 Locust Street in Philadelphia. There is no charge for the concert and a reception will follow the performance.

The Ukemi Project Returns

The Ukemi Project draws on principles from formal martial arts practice and contact improvisation to teach safe falling techniques and ways to get off the floor—both independently and with a partner. Mastering ukemi—the Japanese term for “falling technique”—can improve balance, mobility, and confidence, while helping participants feel more in control of everyday movements such as walking, climbing stairs, and recovering from a trip or loss of balance. The next session begins Saturday, March 14 and consists of 3 sessions at $20 each, taking place at

Zhang Sah Dojo, Queen Village, 530 Bainbridge Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147For more information and to register, contact

In March 2023, Blaine Bonham traveled in Columbia, South America, and discovered the connection between the flower industry there and the Philadelphia Flower Show, currently at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. This year, a team of Penn’s Village members will volunteer at the show.
