Engaging in Aging - Note New Date

Join us tfor Engaging in Aging: A Volunteer & Donor Expo, hosted by Philadelphia Corporation for Aging and the Ralston Foundation. Our own Lynsey Farrell and Camara Jordan will be speaking about the iVllage movement and sharing the joys of volunteering with older adults. Come connect, learn, and see what other nonprofits across Philadelphia are doing to support older adults — we’d love to see you there! 
 

The True and Tasty History of Philadelphia Sandwiches

Wednesday, March 4 from 2:00 to 3:00 pm

Our city boasts some of the most delicious original sandwiches and passionate sandwich aficionados. From the cheesesteak to the hoagie, and many others, Philly's culinary history has resulted in some of America’s most established meals between bread. Join Mike Madaio, author of the recently released book, A History of Philadelphia Sandwiches, in a lively discussion about the origins of your favorite sandwiches.

 

 Bio of presenter:  Mike Madaio is a food and wine writer based in southeastern Pennsylvania. In addition to authoring the books A History of Philadelphia Sandwiches and Lost Mount Penn, his writing has appeared in publications such as Wine Enthusiast, VinePair, Edible Philly and more. He has also achieved Italian Wine Ambassador certification from the Vinitaly International Academy.
 

Cost is $15 per person, which includes hoagie tasting. This is a non-refundable fee. If you are unable to attend, your registration will be donated to Penn's Village General Fund.

 



Women's History Tour of the Weitzman Museum of American Jewish History

Thursday, March 5 from 10:30 to Noon

In honor of Women’s History Month, Penn’s Village is organizing a special guided Women’s History Tour at The Weitzman Museum. This tour highlights the vital roles Jewish women have played in shaping American life from the colonial period to today. Through stories of women as mothers, educators, pioneers, workers, activists, artists, and leaders, the tour explores themes of family, identity, immigration, labor, philanthropy, feminism, and cultural expression. adition and propelled change—balancing family and faith while leading movements for justice, equality, and creativity.

 

There will be an optional group lunch (private pay) after the museum tour at Red Owl Tavern (5th and Chestnut Streets). If you plan on attending the lunch, please also email communications@pennsvillage.org.

 

$20 per person is non-refundable. If unable to attend the registration will be donated to Penn’s Village general fund.

Aging Alone Together
  

In collaboration with Village to Village Network, this six-week program consists of weekly sessions covering key topics such as building community, preparing for future medical decisions, considering financial and legal matters and exploring how to age at home or make a move.The program will be on Tuesdays from 2:00 to 3:30 pm beginning March 10. Together Through Change
 
Join a small, supportive group for older adults seeking connection, understanding, and meaning. Facilitated by Felicia Greenfield, LCSW, this group will meet in person on Fridays from March 13 to May 1 from 11:30 to 1:00 at 255 S. 17th Street in Philadelphia. This group is ideal for those navigating changes such as retirement, loss, or illness and those seeking connection and support with others who understand. Film Screening and Conversation
  
 

On Monday, March 9 at 7 p.m., Old Pine Presbyterian Church (412 Pine St.) is co-presenting a special public screening of the documentary Elie Wiesel: Soul on Fire, followed by a moderated conversation with the film’s writer and director, Oren Rudavsky, Rabbi Nathan Kamesar of Society Hill Synagogue, and Pastor Jason Ferris of Old Pine Street Presbyterian Church. More information and tickets.

The Ukemi Project Returns
 

The Ukemi Project draws on principles from formal martial arts practice and contact improvisation to teach safe falling techniques and ways to get off the floor—both independently and with a partner. Mastering ukemi—the Japanese term for “falling technique”—can improve balance, mobility, and confidence, while helping participants feel more in control of everyday movements such as walking, climbing stairs, and recovering from a trip or loss of balance. The next session begins Saturday, March 14 and consists of 3 sessions at $20 each, taking place at
