The Easy, Refreshing Way to Organize Your Home

Tuesday  January  27  2 to 3 pm

MacColl Room, 201 S 21st Street, Philadelphia PA

 

Learn how to make happy decisions about what to let go of and ways to organize the rest. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll have fun while setting individual goals for decluttering and receiving specific strategies to meet them.  Find out how to recycle stained clothes, torn linens, DVDs, broken lamps, and more. You can even bring some items to class to recycle items you can’t recycle curbside.

 

Presenter Bio: Rachel Martin is the founder of Clutter Tonic: The Easy, Refreshing Way to Organize Your Home. She takes great pleasure in teaching people to organize and maintain filing systems, create craft areas, achieve the clean-lined kitchens they crave, and more.

Welcome to the Flower Show

Wednesday, February 4 from 2:00 to 3:00 pm

The presentation will focus on the 2026 Philadelphia Flower Show.  In 2026, Philadelphia will celebrate its 250th anniversary. Connecting with that, the show will highlight Philadelphia’s Hidden Histories, in gardens and designs as well as a look at World’s Fairs from around the world.  Attendees will also learn how to become a volunteer at the show in the numerous supporting roles necessary to one of the top 3 Flower Shows in the World. 

 

Bio of presenter – The presenter will be Sarah C. Makin.  Sarah has exhibited in the Show with her garden club, Rose Tree Gardeners, where they have enjoyed winning and learning!  Sarah joined the Competitive Classes Committee chairing Design Classes and is currently the Chair of the Competitive Classes Committee.

Tax News
 

A heads-up for members age 65+: A new federal law includes a temporary tax deduction of up to $6,000 per year for adults age 65 and older (or up to $12,000 for couples where both spouses qualify), available from 2025–2028. The deduction is added to the standard deduction and may lower taxable income for some retirees and working seniors, depending on individual circumstances. StrongerMemory: The Fight Against Cognitive Decline
 
The Village in Alexandria, Virginia is offering this course to other villages, and Penn's Village is invited to take part. The program helps participants improve their ability to retrieve memories. Past participants have noticed improvement in their ability to focus, find misplaced items and remember conversations. Let's Talk Trash 
 

On Tuesday, January 27, get ready to Talk Trash with leaders from the city as we discuss the root issues surrounding litter on our sidewalks and what we can do to work towards a solution. You can also register your home for a blue recycling bin distributed by the Department of Sanitation (while limited supplies last). This event will be at 7:00 pm at Trinity Memorial Church on 22nd and Spruce. To learn more or pre-register for this free event, click here
