How prosecutors operate is a mystery to most people. The purpose of this talk is to peel back the veil and help people understand how a prosecutor’s mind works: how he sizes up a possible case; whether he should even prosecute; how he chooses the person(s) he prosecutes; what charge(s) he should present to the grand jury; and other tactical concerns. Questions are always welcome.

 FROM THE COMMUNITY

Volunteering for Penn’s Village can be a one time thing, or a longer term commitment

Not everyone has the bandwidth, energy, or ability to help ALL the time, but what if you could do something nice once in a while?

Little ways you can participate in Penn’s Village volunteering:

Help someone catch up on their ironing.

Help plant or weed a garden

Walk a dog or feed a cat

Hang pictures, change light bulbs, clean a fridge

Help someone understand how to use their TV remote

Collect & Drop off recycling or thrift store donations

Pick up a few necessities /groceries for someone struggling to leave the house

Sometimes we forget that even small favors can mean a lot; reach out to Kate@pennsvillage.org with your ideas on how you might help a fellow villager!

New Penn’s Village Special Interest Group: Chess

Do you play — or would you like to learn how to play — chess? Now is your chance!

We’re excited to announce a new Penn’s Village Special Interest Group. Thanks to the generosity of a skilled chess strategist and coach, members of all levels — from “never touched a chess piece” to experienced player — can now enjoy weekly chess sessions.

Two Penn's Village members, both complete beginners, began working with him this summer and will continue this fall. They give him high praise for his patient, engaging, and effective teaching style. Best of all, he is offering his coaching at no cost to Penn’s Village members.

  • When: Wednesdays at 4:00 pm (preferred time for the coach; weekday afternoons may be possible)

  • Where: At a Penn’s Village member’s home (details shared upon registration)

  • Format: Work with the coach, or simply pair up with fellow members for a game.

Whether you’re eager to sharpen your strategic thinking, try something new, or just have fun, we invite you to join us.

Interested? Contact Marjorie Muecke (m.muecke@comcast.net) to sign up or learn more.
