The Second Meeting of the Penn’s Village Affinity Group: Movies for the Mind
When: July 15th at 2pm
Where: Arch Street Presbyterian Church -- 1724 Arch Street
All are graciously invited to a discussion of the film The Village. Join us for a rousing conversation, assessing what this film might have to say about our present, fraught times.
The Village was written, produced, and directed by Philly’s own M. Night Shyamalan, It features an all-star cast including Joaquin Phoenix, Adrien Brody, William Hurt, Sigourney Weaver, and Brendan Gleeson. Centered on a small, isolated village which lives in fear of nameless humanoid creatures who inhabit the surrounding woods. Following a young villager’s death, the community is divided over whether to avoid similar tragedies by choosing someone to risk traveling through the woods to secure medical supplies from “the wicked towns” surrounding them. This film is free on FXNOW or for rent on Apple TV, Amazon Prime, and On Demand.
After viewing the film at home, we will meet for a discussion led by Penn’s Village member, Mike Pulsifer. It will be held at the Arch Street Presbyterian Church at 2 pm on Tuesday, July 15th. The church is located between the two Comcast Towers at 1724 Arch Street. The entrance is off the Comcast plaza.
Movies for the Mind will meet for approximately one hour every other month, on the third Tuesday of the month at the Arch Street Presbyterian Church. Going forward the group will choose the films and discussion leaders. Our next discussion will be held on September 16th.
To register, email either Anne Park at annebpark@gmail.com or Mike Pulsifer at mikepulsifer@comcast.net.
