Phishing Email Update

As you may have seen this past week, an alert was sent out about another "phishing" email that has been sent under the name of Molly Clifford. As a further step to protect everyone from additional spam, we would like to suggest that members block the email address mollyclifford@pennsvillage.org. Doing so will help filter out spam emails that misuse Molly's address.

Documentary Recommendation for All Penn's Village Members: Join or Die!

Join or Die is a documentary released in 2023 that examines the importance of clubs, and club membership--a value important to many members of Penn's Village. This film draws on the ideas and words of scholar Robert Putnam, creator of the concept of social capital and author of Bowling Alone, to illustrate the centrality and importance of social connection to our quality of life. Putnam highlights the problem of declining club membership and the resulting loss of connection. He also explores how club membership shapes the health of democracies and how social connections allow people to make social change.

Stay Safe During the Holiday Season: Protect Against Scams

From the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging (PCA) News Bulletin, the holiday season can bring an increase in financial fraud and scams targeting older adults. Scammers often exploit emotions, online shopping and donation appeals to deceive victims. In 2023, scams targeting those 60 and older led to over $3.4 billion in losses, according to the FBI.

Here are common scams to be aware of during the holiday season:

● Charity scams: Fake donation appeals.
● Non-delivery scams: Items purchased online never arrive.
● Grandparent scams: Fake emergencies involving "relatives" seeking money.
● Tech support scams: Fraudulent offers to "fix" computer issues.
● Romance scams: Pretend relationships to request money.
● Blackmail scams: Threats to release personal info unless paid.
● Investment scams: Fake financial opportunities, including cryptocurrency.

How to protect yourself: The Eldercare Locator provides resources to help older adults, caregivers, and families stay safe from scams. For tips and assistance, visit
