Free Caregiver Events on Alzheimer's and Dementia

The Philadelphia Corporation for Aging (PCA) is offering two upcoming sessions, designed for caregivers, on recognizing and understanding Alzheimer's and dementia.

The first session, titled "10 Warning Signs," takes place this coming Thursday, December 12th, from 1-2pm. The session helps caregivers recognize common signs of the disease in themselves and others and identify next steps to take, including how to talk to their doctor.

The second session, titled "Understanding Alzheimer's and Dementia," will take place on Thursday, January 23rd, 2025. This course covers basic information on Alzheimer's and dementia, stages, risks, and FDA-approved treatments.

Both sessions take place at the PCA Offices, at 642 N. Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19130.

You can find out more information by calling 215-765-9000 ext. 4391, or

Penn Memory Center seeks public input to improve outreach

The Penn Memory Center seeks to develop more informative and engaging healthy brain education through its community programming. To support this effort, feedback is sought from the public about how the center can tailor its outreach efforts to best meet people's needs and interests relating to cognitive health, understanding risk and related topics. Feedback and suggestions are being collected through a short, anonymous survey.

You can take the survey here: Penn Memory Center Survey

Central Senior Services presents "Scripting the Movies" on zoom

Our friend Dick Levinson of the Senior Center at The Central Library of Philadelphia has invited us to a zoom program on Friday, December 6 at 11:00 am, called “Scripting The Movies: The Mankiewicz Brothers in Hollywood”. If you love movies---and great Hollywood stories, this program is for you. It is the story of Herman & Joe Mankiewicz, two brothers from New York who played major roles in the production of great films like The Wizard of Oz, two Marx Brothers movies, Guys and Dolls, and The Philadelphia Story.

This event will feature guest speaker Nick Davis, a filmmaker and Mankiewicz family member. Nick is also the author of “Competing With Idiots: Herman & Joe Mankiewicz, A Dual Portrait.”
