Reading and Discussion with the Author

House Parties
Come hear poet and writer Lynn Levin read “A Visit to the Old House,” one of the deeply thought-provoking and ultimately uplifting stories from her new and critically acclaimed short story collection House Parties (Spuyten Duyvil, 2023). House Parties was named one of the best books of summer by Philadelphia Magazine, which calls the stories “vivid, funny, and quietly powerful…House Parties may break your heart, but it'll never do it the same way twice." The collection comprises 20 stories in which a wide cast of characters pursue whatever right thing or wrong thing they desire—often with weird invention. Readers who love the fiction of Elizabeth Strout, Mary Gordon, and Steve Almond will find in Lynn Levin’s House Parties more of the humor, gravitas, and irony they admire in contemporary literary fiction. Feel free to ask Lynn questions after her presentation.

House Parties may be purchased from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or wherever books are sold. Copies will also be available for sale for $20 each (cash or check only) at the event.

Lynn Levin is a poet and writer. She is the author of nine books, most recently, her debut collection of short stories House Parties (2023). Widely published as a poet, Levin’s five poetry collections include The Minor Virtues (2020); Miss Plastique (2013), a Next Generation Indie Book Awards finalist in poetry; Fair Creatures of an Hour (2009), a Next Generation Indie Book Awards finalist in poetry; Imaginarium (2005), a finalist for Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Award; and A Few Questions about Paradise (2000). Levin holds a BA in comparative literature from Northwestern University and an MFA in writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts. A former producer of the TV talk show The Drexel InterView, Lynn Levin has also had careers in publishing and advertising.
