Schuylkill River Revival (P)

Penn’s Village Presents:

“The Schuylkill River Revival”

With John Randolph, Schuylkill River Development Corp.

Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at 2:00 pm

MacColl Room, First Presbyterian Church

201 S. 21st St.

Unless you are a lifelong Philadelphian, you may not know of the somewhat unhappy and sordid past of the Schuylkill River.  Long an industrial powerhouse, with concurrent pollution, not much attention had been paid to Philadelphia’s other river until the end of the 20th century.  Come learn about the efforts to make the Schuylkill the destination it is today for walkers, bicyclists, tourists, and neighbors!

John Randolph is founder and former President of the Schuylkill River Development Council, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the revitalization of the Tidal Schuylkill River in Philadelphia. Under his stewardship, the Schuylkill River Development Council was transformed from a neighborhood grass-roots group to the Schuylkill River Development Corporation with a completely new Board of Directors composed of corporate and government leaders. As a result of his leadership and vision, more than $15 million was raised for Schuylkill River Park, which has in turn leveraged billions of dollars in real estate development projects, and connected under-served communities to Center City.
