Beware of Door-to-Door Scams!
A Penn's Village Member writes:

"We are experiencing a rash of scammy contractors offering to do jobs that involve masonry (and anything else you might ask for...)....We had direct experience of this just recently and again today--but smelled the rat before we bought in [from] an outfit with a handsome truck with the name “[Redacted] Paving and Masonry" and a flashy business card.

I am concerned especially for the vulnerable older people who always need help with some household fix-it who might be glad to hire a stranger who turns up on spec at the door... one of these guys mentioned two neighbors he had worked for. When I checked with one, he confirmed my feeling that this was a hoax.

The obvious remedy is never to hire some fast talking stray knock-at-the-door guy and always to do the research and take the measures needed to protect oneself from scams."

We couldn't have said it better ourselves!  "If it sounds too good to be true..."  Do your research!
