 “Wealth Building in Communities

Adversely Impacted by Systemic Racism”

With Patience Lehrman, E.MBA, Ed.D., Temple University

Thursday, September 14, 2023 at 2:00 pm via Zoom

Part 3 of the Inclusiveness and Diversity Committee’s series on Racism and Aging

America’s long history of slavery, Jim Crow laws, redlining policies and inequities in education and health care have not only caused economic disparities for Black Americans, they have prevented Black families from building and transferring wealth. This program will describe the history that led to the wealth gap and discuss potential solutions that will allow Black families to more easily build wealth and pass it on to future generations. This a Zoom program with plenty of time for audience participation and questions.

Dr. Patience Lehrman is Executive Director of the Intergenerational Center and the Center for Professional Development in Career and Technical Education at Temple University. She leads the development and implementation of grant-funded programs serving children and families in Philadelphia, providing support group and respite services to older adults in kinship families, connecting youth and young adults to  postsecondary and workforce opportunities, and preparing Career and Technical Educators in eastern Pennsylvania. She serves on several advisory committees, including the Mayor's Commission on Aging.
