Penn's Village Reads: Roman Fever by Edith Wharton
If you are a member, please log in to access additional, potentially lower registration fee options.
About this event
American novelist and short story writer Edith Wharton wrote at length about the lives of upper class New Yorkers, principally women, during what came to be called “The Gilded Age,” a period of history in which wealthy women were seen as decorative ornaments, proof to the world of their husbands' wealth, good taste, and manliness. Jo Ellen Winter will read “Roman Fever,” in which the hitherto undeclared bitterly competitive relationship between two wealthy NY widows is revealed through their conversation and the conversations of their two young adult daughters.
