Penn's Village Goes to the Movies: The Lion

The Lion (2016) is a biographical drama based on the true story of Saroo Brierley.

As a five-year-old boy in India, Saroo becomes separated from his family and ends up thousands of miles from home.

After surviving on the streets, he is adopted by an Australian couple. As an adult, haunted by memories

and longing to find his birth family, Saroo uses Google Earth to trace his way back to his village.

The film explores themes of identity, belonging, and the power of perseverance.

Tuesday, July 29 at 10:00 pm - FRONTLINE -“Remaking the Middle East: Israel vs. Iran - Premiere - How Israel ended up fighting wars in Gaza and Iran - and the U.S. role. Benjamin Netanyahu’s long campaign to defeat Iran; the conflict with the Palestinians; and his difficult relations with the U.S. overpeace and Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

 

Thursday, July 31 at 10:00pm - SHELTER ME: THE CANCER PIONEERS – Encore - A feature documentary about groundbreaking clinical trials for dogs with cancer and how these same treatments are being fast-tracked for people with cancer. The film features some of the leading scientists at the National Cancer Institute / National Institutes of Health, the University of Pennsylvania (Dr. Nicola Mason), the University of Illinois, the University of Wisconsin and Colorado State University. This is an inspiring and hopeful story. The immunotherapies that the dogs and people are receiving are showing tremendous results.
