The Declaration, the Constitution and American Identity: A Contrarian View

Professor Kermit Roosevelt of the University of Pennsylvania Law School argues that the Declaration and the original Constitution are not the source of America’s fundamental values. Rather, our identity comes from the Reconstruction Constitution and the people who defeated the southern secessionists.

Kermit Roosevelt is a professor of constitutional law at the University of Pennsylvania and an expert in the field of conflict law. He is also a Distinguished Research Fellow of the Annenberg Public Policy Center at Penn.

Penn's Village is proud to co-sponsor this program with Friends in the City (FitC) and the Philadelphia City Institute Library (1905 Locust Street). It will be held in the meeting room on the library’s lower level and we regret there is no elevator.
