Penn’s Village is pleased, once again, to collaborate with Friends in the City to offer two very special opportunities: A complementary one hour ANYONE CAN DANCE® introductory class and a paid 6-session series to follow.
Judith has trained with many dance greats including Alvin Ailey and her program, ANYONE CAN DANCE®, is specifically designed for older adults, using adaptive choreography that can be done in a chair, supported behind a chair or moving across the floor to music loved by many of us - Big Band, Swing, Motown, Broadway (and sometimes classical). Props such as scarves, tambourines and maracas, hats and canes provide an additional challenge of coordination.
Recent studies have shown that dance surpasses exercise in benefits: Movement patterns and rhythmic impulses of dance make the participant feel lighter and more confident and challenge the motor neurons of the brain, improving memory. Whether you have never danced before, or are returning to it, you will find the music and choreography inspiring!
The classes will take place in the Community Room (#105) of Friends Center City –Riverfront, 22 South Front Street. All are on Thursdays at 10:30AM
- The free introductory class is on 9/7
- The 6-series classes are on: 9/14, 10/5, 10/19, 11/2, 11/9, 11/16 (dates of Jewish holiday are excluded). The cost of the series is $30, payable directly to Judith at the first session.Additional sessions can be scheduled throughout the 2017-18 season, ending in June, making this a regular part of your exercise and entertainment plan.
